Mobile Apps Make Playing Cupid Easier

According to the National Retail Federation’s 2012 Valentine’s Day survey, more than 60 percent of online shoppers plan to spend money celebrating the holiday. Twenty percent of them planned to shell out an average of $157.76 for jewelry and a third will go out for a nice dinner, spending about $75.

But here’s the interesting part: Blog.Shop.org reported that 25 percent of smartphone owners expect to research or compare products on their smartphone, and a third of tablet owners are planning to do the same thing.

These smartphone and tablet apps make shopping for Valentine’s Day much more convenient. The online shopping phenomenon is only going to increase. Since Valentine’s Day is geared mainly toward men, this is a great idea. It saves them time and is a fantastic idea for retailers.

For retailers who missed the opportunity to optimize their mobile apps for Valentine’s Day, Easter is just eight weeks ago, followed closely by Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Need more help? Stephen Burke, a tablet design expert for Resource Interactive, offered the four qualities that all good tablet design has — it’s engaging, shareable, shoppable and extendable.
